Yo Ad Agency: Jealousy is thy Name!
You are the new enthusiastic, knowledgeable Marketing Expert who is kind of an all-rounder but most importantly a Digital Marketing Expert. You are chosen among the 300+ odd candidates who applied for it. One of the assignments you are handed by the Management is to meet the Ad/Brand Agency who has been servicing the company for years, purely because of a cordial & friendly relationship with the founder of the company. Nothing wrong there.
So, with all the excitement you have thinking that it is going to be a great meeting to exchange creative ideas and thoughts, you land up at the Ad Agency’s office 45 minutes early ahead of the meeting because you wish to give a great first impression. Here is where the nightmare begins! Let us list out the terrifying experience in detail:
1. The Founder of the Ad Agency has no clue you are visiting him, because, apparently, your company’s Founder’s son (who runs the company) has failed to remind the Ad Agency gentleman that you are coming in. But he was informed only through a text for which he had completely agreed.
2. So, when you land at his office and call him, he willingly and positively says he will meet you in an hour. That hour passes the 1 Hour mark and very soon becomes a horrifying 3 hour wait at his dingy, old, ill-maintained office. But the staff members are sweet and humble enough to offer you water and a good old discussion about work that keeps you occupied.
3. After almost a 4 hour wait, the AD Agency Founder comes in and the first thing he does is look at you in the most seething way giving you a jealous look. Then, after a courteous greeting by you, the least this elderly gentleman could have done is to at least apologise for the 4-hour delay! Never mind!!
4. During the conversation, all he can tell you is how he has done so much for the company that has recruited me and that the Company Proprietor and himself go a long way. The next shocking thing he admits to is that he hates Digital Marketers and never believes in Online Marketing and that Traditional Media is always the most trusted option.
5. Next, he tries to put you down saying all you may ever know about Marketing is limited to Digital Marketing, which you obviously take with a pinch of smile, grin and loads of patience.
6. And to top it all, he insists on you, your colleague and the office driver to have lunch with his team, but when you refuse, he offers a fresh juice beverage which he instructs his office assistant to go get. While we have it, he excuses himself as he has another meeting lined up and leaves.
7. The reason for this tension is because the Management of your company decided to HIRE you who has multi-level skills thereby replacing this Ad Agency! Not your fault. Right?
So, here comes the pain, literally speaking!! You being the innocent self, drink the tasty juice only to suffer for the rest of the day with stomach ache, food poisoning and the rumbling of the stomach which only God can understand what you are going through. Visualise please.
Surprisingly enough, your colleague and the office driver who had the same juice have no problems whatsoever! Who is to blame? You wonder for many days. Months have passed, still don’t seem to know the answer!
