Why Aren’t You Hired?
Recruiter’s Cliched Response or NO Response!
Here is a quick question to all you Readers: How many times have you applied for jobs & out of 50 odd job applications you have emailed/submitted, except for the automated “Thank you for Applying” email, none of the Recruiting companies/Recruiters take the time to draft you a “personalised” email informing you that your candidature has not been shortlisted!?
So, out of the 100 jobs you apply, you may receive a handful or may we say, about 3 – 4 email responses by recruiters on the closure of the Job you had applied for.
But we aren’t talking about the random jobs you apply which is just the Step 1of the entire phase. We are talking about you being shortlisted, attending the interview or in some cases, 2-3 rounds of the interview that you attended, and, there is silence from the company for weeks. And then, post your innocent and keen follow-ups comes a cold/cliched/template-oriented email from the HR/Recruiter saying that they appreciate your time and effort in attending the interview but, unfortunately, they have decided to go ahead with another candidate who is more suitable for the role!! To your shocked and annoyed mind, you still don’t get the honest, detailed, explanatory response with solid reasons on WHY you were rejected! Makes sense, right? Because it is not only your right to know the reason but the Obligation of the Recruiter who shortlisted you and you had to prepare for the interview, work hard on an interview presentation which you spent hours on, and then, take the time to polish your Business Communication, dress up in formal attire, take the time, commute to the office for the interview/or attend a virtual interview by investing your valuable time.
After this methodical exercise and the hope that you get hired, you wait with baited breath and to no avail, because Recruiters fail to respond to your follow-ups simply because they have not just you, but at least a100 odd others to respond to.
In larger MNCs & corporates, all of these are well processed and automated and every candidate who has either applied for the job or attended the interview does get a closure response (even though automated and template-based and not customised to you). But is that enough? How are recruiters repaying you for the value you brought to their table? Isn’t it because of all you candidates that they were exposed to various skills, expertise, knowledge and different types of candidatures from different backgrounds that helped them in their comparative analysis and then closing the hiring with the right candidate as per their decision-making parameters?
With this in mind, don’t you think all Candidates deserve the REASON WHY they were rejected and on what parameters of the company they failed in? Isn’t this the moral obligation of all recruiters and companies? Also, isn’t this the only way to move forward in educating candidates in letting them know where they went wrong? You will agree with the fact that by doing so, companies and organisations will nurture skilled candidates for a better tomorrow and in turn, Candidates will thank them for a “Constructive Feedback” they receive for not being hired.
